Dispute Resolution

Meet Kathryn's team

A pragmatic and realistic lawyer

Kathryn is a Director in our Dispute Resolution Team.  Kathryn is known for her work resolving disputes through litigation, adjudication, or more often negotiation or mediation.  She works with clients to resolve complex problems and manage the risks of a difficult situation before a dispute arises.

Kathryn’s clients are often in the public sector and she helps resolve procurement issues, PFI/PPP disputes and judicial reviews.  She is also often involved in the pensions and residential/commercial development sectors, particularly in relation to negligence claims against professional advisors.

Over the course of her career, Kathryn has acted for many well-known and respected national and international businesses in a variety of sectors – ranging from heavy manufacturing to the care sector.

Commercially focused advice

Helping clients to resolve issues and achieve a satisfactory outcome to particularly difficult problems is the most rewarding part of her work, and Kathryn is able to distil complex documents and complicated legal and technical issues into commercially focused advice which her clients can understand.

This client focused approach means that Kathryn works in an integrated way with her clients, so that she can fully understand the background and commercial context of each matter, ensuring a strategy that best fits their long-term objectives.

Kathryn’s hands on working style means that clients know that she’s determined to find a solution to difficult problems even when it seems impossible, but they also respect her commercial pragmatism when she helps them to recognise what is realistically achievable. She says, “I always keep my client’s bigger picture in mind and by staying calm under pressure I can help keep others calm”.

Insights

“I have found them to have a very client/customer focus and a customer friendly approach.  Both take on the task at hand in a “we” approach rather than a “you” approach – this demonstrates a real buy-in on their part and I have found this to help (particularly when it is a reactive and stressful situation)”

“Their commitment to the work and knowledge of their client’s business is fantastic, and is best summed up to say both feel like part of the Council’s team.”

“Kathryn has provided very concise legal and commercial advice throughout the process, making sure that we understand the legal matters at hand, whilst taking a commercial approach recognising the needs and realities for the business. All questions have been answered, and assistance provided in a timely manner (including responding to urgent requests outside of Kathryn’s working days and hours when needed). Kathryn does not sugar coat matters, which I respect. I enjoy working with Kathryn and would certainly welcome working with her on other matters in the future.”
