Endless-backed BBF acquires Sargents Bakeries creating a £200m turnover business

Specialist lawyers at Walker Morris have advised Endless LLP-backed BBF Limited, a Blackburn-based ambient cake and dessert manufacturer, on its acquisition of Sargents Bakeries Limited for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Doncaster, Sargents Bakeries produces sweet pies, tarts and sundaes with annual revenue of about £24m. The combined businesses will have turnover approaching £200m, employ over 1,700 people across six sites and will continue to be led by Jonathan Lill as CEO, supported by the BBF board of directors. The site in Doncaster will continue to trade under the Sargents Bakeries name.

Walker Morris fielded a specialist team led by Richard Naish, Partner in the Corporate Team, with support from Kayleigh Watson (Corporate), Claire Askew (Finance) and Jeremy Moore (Real Estate).

Jonathan Lill, chief executive at BBF, said:

“This is another strong acquisition for BBF, our people and our customers. Sargents’ product range and customer base are very complementary and the acquisition will enable us to offer customers even greater flexibility and innovation.

“Sargents has had a very challenging time recently and we were keen to step in immediately to protect both continued supply to its valued customers and its loyal employees.

“Across both businesses, we remain committed to continuing to invest and deliver great quality, service and innovation to our customers.”

Richard Naish added:

“We are delighted to have worked with BBF on this latest transaction. The acquisition of Sargents Bakery is a great addition to the business which will benefit all stakeholders.”
