Finance Dispute Resolution

Meet Richard's team

Clear, practical and commercial guidance

Richard is well known for his many years’ experience acting on behalf of banks, building societies and asset finance companies, with a focus on secured and unsecured recoveries and dispute resolution and mediation. Richard says, “my practice focuses on providing lender clients with advice on a wide range of financial disputes. I have an appreciation of what clients are looking to achieve and I offer clear, practical and commercial guidance from the outset”.

Richard typically works with large high street lenders, through to small finance companies and he always tries to recover their assets as painlessly as possible. “If we can achieve both parties’ goals and leave everyone happy, that’s rewarding” Richard points out. “You’re often having a real impact on people’s lives”.

Throughout his 30-year law career, Richard says his number one priority has always been not to take his clients’ for granted and, he says, it’s vital to keep working hard to deliver results.

Ranked in Chambers and the Legal 500, Richard says his strength lies in his experience, his knowledge and his reputation. These help him talk to lots of different people, all with a variety of different levels of knowledge. “I’ve learnt over time, how to ascertain what their level of knowledge is, and to give advice accordingly”.

Asked to describe his working style, Richard says “I always actively seek to avoid unnecessary disputes, but I’m always happy to argue back if the other side demands it”.

Describing life at Walker Morris as challenging but rewarding, Richard joined the firm because as well as being local, the breadth of training – six seats of four months instead of four seats of six, really appealed.
