Liz is a senior member of the Competition and Foreign Investment team with 20 years’ experience working in both private practice and at competition regulators, including the European Commission and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Liz advises on a wide range of issues, covering EU, UK and multi-jurisdictional merger control, competition law compliance, consumer protection, private damages actions, abuse of dominance and cartel investigations. She also advises on foreign direct investment filings and UK subsidy control.

Liz’s recent experience includes advising on the sale of the Hovis Group to Associated British Foods plc, where she was an integral part of the team up to the conclusion of the CMA’s Phase 2 review, advising clients in the energy sector on competition law compliance, including the Green Gas Task Force, and advising both public authorities and recipients of financial assistance on the application of the UK Subsidy Control Act.

Liz also has significant experience in the technology sector, having previously advised complainants bringing cases of abuse of dominance before the European Commission against Intel and IBM and, in the infrastructure sector, advising clients in proceedings brought before the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Whilst at the CMA, Liz also worked on an appeal brought against the CAA’s price control determination for Heathrow airport and the CMA’s open banking project.
