Ben is a Partner in the Infrastructure & Energy team with over 20 years’ experience of advising on complex projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He specialises in clean energy and decarbonisation projects, energy networks and energy regulation.

Ben advises contractors, developers, investors, owners, operators, funders and technology providers in relation to projects across a the infrastructure and energy sectors, specialising in clean power and grid infrastructure projects at the heart of the UK’s transition to a decarbonised energy system. Ben advises on projects across renewable energy, energy storage, power purchase agreements (PPAs), private wire networks, heat networks, biomethane and biofuels.

Over two decades Ben has built a strong reputation for combining commerciality and specialist sector knowledge to help clients navigate the rapidly evolving climate and energy policies. His strengths are commercial insight, problem-solving, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach, which he applies in guiding clients through complex, large-scale projects.

Ben is also recognised for his expertise in the waste and energy from waste sector, where he has advised on many of the UK’s largest projects over the past two decades, and has advised the UK’s largest biomethane producer on a large number of projects across the UK and abroad.

Experience

Providing specialist support to the lead legal counsel to EQT in connection with its acquisition of global waste-to-energy specialist Covanta in 2021 in a deal valued at about USD 5.3 billion (EUR 4.67bn).

Advising a rooftop solar funder on a number of rooftop solar PV projects with long-term PPAs.

Acting for Hochtief SolarPartner, in relation to the 50 year rooftop solar PPA project forming part of a low-carbon student village DBFO project at Staffordshire University.

Advising a major port in connection with an EV charging infrastructure project.

Advising a leading dairy producer on a number of low carbon energy projects across its manufacturing facilities including two green gas projects, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and a ground mounted solar PV project.

Advising the UK’s largest producer of biomethane on biomethane-to-grid projects across Scotland and overseas.

Acting for MVV Environment on a 50MW tonne energy from waste combined heat and power project at Medworth, Cambridge; and a 110,00ktpa EFW PPP project at Baldovie, Dundee.
