13th December 2019
Almost a quarter of a tonne of food, which is equivalent to 595 meals, has been donated by Walker Morris employees across the firm.
Organised by Andrew Maclean, Hannah Levy and Frances Scarisbrick of the Real Estate Group, donations were made to the Leeds North and West Foodbank.
As part of The Trussell Trust’s network of over 1,200 foodbanks, the Leeds North and West Foodbank comprises of 9 centres running 11 sessions per week supporting people in the local area. Every day, people in the UK can go hungry from a range of reasons including redundancy and debt repayments. Donations can go a long way in helping foodbanks prevent crime, physical and mental health issues, family breakdown and housing loss. 11,710 three-day emergency food supplies were given by Leeds North and West Foodbank to people in crisis in the 12 month period from April 2018 to March 2019.
Commenting on the donation, Andrew Maclean, Senior Associate in the Real Estate Group at Walker Morris said:
“As one of Leeds largest employers, we recognise the importance of our position in being able to make a positive difference within the region. The festive period can prove difficult for many families and this generous donation from Walker Morris employees ensures that Leeds North and West Foodbank can continue their incredible work this Christmas.”
Karen Burgon, Project Director of Leeds North and West Foodbank, commented:
“Until we reach a future where food banks are no longer needed, we’ll continue to provide vital support when it matters most. We’re dedicated to ensuring that people in our community without enough money for food are able to access emergency support. Our vital work in the community is only possible due to the incredible generosity shown by local businesses and individuals donating food, time and funds so we are very grateful to Walker Morris for this fantastic support. Thank you.”
With the benchmark now set, watch this space for next year’s collection!
