Walker Morris announces Andys Man Club as 2020 Charity of the Year

Walker Morris is delighted to announce Andys Man Club as its 2019/2020 Charity of the Year. The Firm is planning to kick-start its year of fundraising with its annual Halloween ‘Trick or Treat’ bake sale.
Andys Man Club is a mental health support network, founded in 2016 by Luke Ambler after his brother-in-law, Andy took his own life following a period of depression. In their own words “it is a club for men. Men arrive, they’re welcomed in and they talk. Whatever is said in the room stays in the room. They describe it as ‘a bit like Fight Club without the fighting’. No politics, religion or medications. It’s just ‘how’s your week been?’ ‘Anything to get off your chest?’ ‘What’s your goal between now and next week?’. It’s a non-judgemental environment where men can take their masks off and be themselves.”
For this year’s Charity of the Year, we will be organising and taking part in various events and activities over the next 12 months to raise as many funds as possible including bake sales, a Christmas advent raffle, Christmas jumper day, a Trainee and Paralegal fundraising challenge and much more!
As a responsible employer it is important for Walker Morris to make a positive social impact by supporting the wider community where its employees live and work. Each year the Firm’s employees are invited to nominate local charities that have either impacted directly on their lives or that they passionately support. The nominated charities are they considered for a shortlist which all employees have the opportunity to vote on. The chosen charity receives all the money raised from the fundraising activities and events that take place throughout the course of the year.
Last year the Firm raised £17,537.62 for Sunshine & Smiles, a Leeds-based charity that provides a support network for children and young people who have Down syndrome and their families. The charity offers speech and language therapy, regular groups and activities, individual support and advocacy for families, as well as raising awareness and challenging preconceptions in the wider community.

“The Walker Morris Charity Committee has a whole programme of fundraising activities planned for the next 12 months to try and raise awareness and much needed funding for Andys Man Club so they can continue contributing to saving strangers’ lives.”
