Walker Morris advises on fifth landmark eToro cryptocurrency partnership deal with Premiership Football ClubPrint news article
A team of specialist lawyers at Walker Morris have advised on an agreement with the fifth of nine Premier League football clubs in a landmark partnership deal with global investment platform, eToro, in a deal that is revolutionary in sport and football globally
Over the last two Premier League seasons, eToro has launched partnerships with Tottenham Hotspur FC, Aston Villa FC, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Cardiff City FC, Crystal Palace FC, Everton FC, Leicester City FC, Newcastle United FC and Southampton FC. The partnerships mark the first step in bringing the opportunity offered by bitcoin and cryptoassets to football. eToro believes that crypto, and the technology, namely blockchain that underpins it, can improve football and the world of sports. In the future, this could include addressing issues of ticket touting, problems with transparency and providing a guarantee of authenticity for merchandise.
As a partner of these nine Premier League clubs, eToro will gain global exposure through an extensive range of marketing opportunities including matchday LED boards, player access, tickets and digital rights.
Walker Morris once again fielded a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive advice to the football clubs including Katie Reed and Christian Slinger (Sports) and Jeanette Burgess (Regulatory).
Iqbal V. Gandham, UK Managing Director at eToro said:
“We’re proud to be the Premier League’s biggest club sponsor. Working with six clubs for the second year in a row demonstrates our commitment to our customers, and the fans.
“We want to open up our club partnerships for all and to use this celebration to enable smart insights into transfer dealings from industry experts, just like our market leading investment platform.”
Katie Reed added:
“This is an exciting partnership deal for both eToro and the Premier League football clubs involved. The complex deal was one of the first of its kind and marks a landmark step in bringing cryptocurrency into the football and sports industry and we are delighted at the successful outcome for all parties involved.
“The five deals we were involved in follow a number of successful Premier League sponsorship deals that the Sports Team have acted on during the course of the close season, demonstrating our specialist expertise in preparing, negotiating and managing complex commercial football agreements.”
