Supporting Two Blues Solar (TBS) with £5.4m solar installation deal across 120 Marston’s pub sites

We’re pleased to announce that our Infrastructure & Energy (I&E) team has played a pivotal role in the landmark commercial rooftop solar deal, supporting Two Blues Solar (TBS) in rolling out solar installations across 120 Marston’s pub sites.

This transformative £5.4m project, fully financed by Atrato Onsite Energy, operates through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), ensuring Marston’s benefits from stable energy prices while accelerating its transition to renewable energy.

Under the PPA, Marston’s will purchase 100% of the renewable energy generated at its pubs, securing price certainty for 25 years while achieving immediate cost savings. The initiative is expected to generate approximately 30,000 kWh of electricity per pub annually, meeting 15-20% of each site’s energy demand. By reducing carbon emissions by 600 tonnes in the first year, the initiative will significantly contribute to Marston’s sustainability goals and its 2040 Net Zero targets.

Our I&E team, led by Paul Dinning and supported by Ben Sheppard, Kyle Spivey, and Abbie Thomas, played a crucial role in structuring and negotiating this project. From the initial stages, the team worked alongside TBS to develop a suite of commercial rooftop solar agreements, ensuring they were market-ready and funder-approved.

The team was instructed to oversee the introduction across 120 pub sites, negotiating agreements between TBS, Marston’s, and Atrato. With Atrato retaining ownership of the systems throughout the PPA term, the I&E team continues to work on site completions, reinforcing its commitment to enabling sustainable energy solutions.

Discussing the deal, Paul Dinning said: “Our team has been instrumental in supporting Two Blues Solar since its inception. This project marks a significant step forward in simplifying the deployment of solar across fragmented estates – demonstrating the viability of PPA-driven models for large-scale renewable energy adoption.”

“The team remains dedicated to supporting innovative renewable energy projects, ensuring clients can navigate the complexities of infrastructure agreements while driving forward sustainability efforts.”

Daniel Levene, co-founder of Two Blues Solar, added: “We’ve had great support from Walker Morris who have helped us navigate the complexities of this project which spans a huge volume of properties across a diverse and fragmented estate.  A framework PPA of this nature really is a first of its kind for a large pub chain in the UK.”
