Sheffield United announce new commercial partnership

Walker Morris Team reinforce position as leading Sports Law Team

The Walker Morris Sports Team has advised Sheffield United F.C. on another significant new commercial partnership as they head into the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Saudi Arabian based Al Wefaq Rent a Car have become the first official Car Rental Partner of the Football Club in a deal that will see the brand across the first team players and management training, travel and bench wear kit.

Founded in 2000, Al Wefaq Rent a Car has more than 80 branches inside the Saudi Kingdom cities domestic and international airports in addition to regional international airports including UAE and Egypt.

The deal follows the Club’s commercial partnership with USG front of shirt and shirt sleeve deal earlier this year on which Walker Morris also advised, and which was the most valuable commercial partnership in the Club’s history.

It has been a successful commercial season for the Walker Morris Team, having advised on over 50 Premier League commercial agreements in the last few months alone. This latest transaction reinforces the Team’s position as the ‘go to’ Sports Law team in football sponsorship. The Team now acts for 10 of the 20 Premier League Clubs with no other UK law firm advising on more current Premier League front of shirt, shirt sleeve, kit supply, commercial partnership and other sports commercial agreements.

The Walker Morris Team, including Christian Slinger, commented:

We are delighted to have advised Sheffield United on its latest sponsorship deal. It is great to see the Club back in the Premier League, and we will look forward to seeing the Club commence its Premier League campaign in just a few days’ time.

“The Sports Team at Walker Morris continues to demonstrate its reputation for managing complex football agreements.”

Sheffield United Head of Commercial Paul Reeves said

“It has been a pleasure working with the team at Walker Morris, their support and guidance on two of the largest commercial deals that the Club have secured has been invaluable. They have ensured that we have developed mutually beneficial agreements with our new commercial partners and we look forward to working with them further as we continue to progress our off field business in the Premier League.”

Mr. Nasser Al Qahtani chairman at Al Wefaq Rent A Car expressed his great pride in this sponsorship saying:

“We are confident of the success of this partnership, which is one of our future plans aligned with the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030 to support Saudi sports in general through the sponsorship program that we started last year locally, and we are expanding today globally with Sheffield United Football club part owned by Saudi Arabia’s HRH Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. AL Qahtani continued this is one of the main reasons for us to be part of the English Premier League, the strongest football league world wide. We wish Sheffield United “The Blades” all the best during the season and looking forward to long lasting partnership with the team and management.”
