Walker Morris’ 5-a-side football team were crowned champions of the annual Pantera Property charity football tournament on Thursday 7 September.
In what were tough conditions, with temperatures reaching 28 degrees, the lads were consistent from the first game until the last. They cruised through the group stages by winning two games and drawing the other. This took them through to the quarter finals where they cruised to a 4-0 victory and they went on to win the semi-final 3-1.
The final was a much tougher affair.
With the disappointment of last year’s defeat in the final against the same opposition still fresh in their memory, the WM team dealt with the occasion in a composed and professional manner. They started on the front foot, and it looked like only one team was going to go on to win the game. It felt like it was not going to be Walker Morris’ day as the opposition goalkeeper was saving absolutely everything that was thrown at him until Lewis Hird popped up with the winning goal with less than two minutes left to play and sealed victory for Walker Morris.
The event was a great success and it raised over £6,000 for Saint Michaels Hospice and The Rob Burrow Motor Neurone Disease Centre Appeal.
We would like to take to take the opportunity to thank Pantera Property for organising the event and we look forward to attending again next year.
