Calling all young artists

Walker Morris has launched its 23rd annual Children’s Charity Calendar Competition and is calling for all of Yorkshire’s budding young artists to take part.

Walker Morris is inviting all primary school aged children from across the Yorkshire and Humber region to enter its annual Children’s Charity Calendar Competition for the chance to win prizes for themselves and their schools.

Entrants simply have to paint a picture that illustrates their favourite month of the year and the winning paintings will be used to produce a calendar which is sold in aid of Martin House Children’s Hospice. Martin House provides family-led care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and supports families across Yorkshire both at the hospice and in the community.

The 13 winners, including the coveted front page winner, will receive a hamper of artists’ materials along with a cheque for £250 for their schools. Runners-up will also receive a prize.

The Competition will be judged by renowned artist Ashley Jackson, David Smedley from Walker Morris and Dean Poole from West Yorkshire Printing.

David Smedley said:

“We are delighted to be launching our annual Children’s Charity Calendar Competition and look forward to seeing all of this year’s entries. The Competition aims to capture the imagination and creativity of the region’s budding young artists whilst raising funds for Martin House Children’s Hospice.

The competition’s longevity is testament to the fantastic efforts of the children and schools who take part every year and we would like to thank them for their continued commitment and enthusiasm.”

Ashley Jackson added:

“It fills me with great pride to be able to launch the 23rd Walker Morris Children’s Charity Calendar Competition for it provides a great focus allowing children to shine equally through their art, rewarding solely on talent, skill and passion. Each year surpasses the last with the children’s artwork a joy to look through, long may I hope it continues to inspire future generations of artists.”
