Ben Sheppard and Charlotte Smith of Walker Morris attended the South Yorkshire COP26 Regional Roadshow today, hosted by ITM Power and the University of Sheffield. We heard from a range of speakers on how businesses can take action to move towards decarbonisation.
This is a key issue for us and our clients. We were presented with figures which show that more than 20% of greenhouse gas emissions come from industry (i.e. manufacturing and construction). This reinforces the message that energy transition also requires an industrial transition – it will be a big part of the 4th industrial revolution.
There was a particular focus on using hydrogen as fuel – but a huge scale up of hydrogen production is needed in order to deliver on this. In order to scale up, it’s clear that major input is needed from new and next generation technologies – and skilled people are needed to deliver on those projects.
Walker Morris are leading members of the Yorkshire Climate Coalition and have specialist energy, manufacturing and technology groups. We have recently published our Factory of the Future microsite, which serves as a knowledge hub and planning tool for smart-technology projects, which are vital to deliver on net zero.
