Karl is head of our Housing Management & Litigation team. With over 30 years of experience in residential landlord and tenant law, Karl is a trusted adviser to both social and private sector landlords, managing agents, lenders, and asset managers.

Karl leads a team of specialist housing lawyers delivering strategic advice and legal solutions to clients such as Anchor Hanover Group, Unite Students, Hyde Housing and national retail lenders and their appointed receivers. He regularly advises on complex housing management issues and litigation, judicial review challenges and tribunal proceedings, helping clients to navigate regulatory scrutiny, governance issues, and housing management risks and issues, with clarity and confidence.

Experience

Successfully defended a High Court Judicial Review challenge brought by Shelter regarding the use of mandatory possession grounds under the Housing Act 1988.

Acted in complex defended possession and injunction claims involving succession, mental health, disability, and Equality Act issues.

Represented clients in the First Tier Property Tribunal and in the Upper Tribunal on matters including leasehold enfranchisement, Right to Manage, lease variation, service charge disputes and Rent Repayment Orders.

Advised on housing governance and rent setting compliance, including in response to In-Depth Assessments by the Regulator of Social Housing.

Provides legal training and co-hosted seminars with Counsel on current housing law issues and best practice.

Advised UK Finance on residential landlord and tenant matters.

Supported clients with Party Wall and also Agricultural Law issues, particularly around tenancy termination and security of tenure.
