The Cabinet Office has announced that the new Procurement Directives will be published in the Official Journal of the EU (the OJEU) on 28 March 2014 and will therefore come into force on 17 April 2014. EU member states will have two years to implement them in national legislation, although the UK Government is aiming to implement them sooner.

The EU Procurement Directives, which will replace the current Public Sector Directive 2004/18, Utilities Directive 2004/17 and provide a separate new directive on the award of concession contracts, were approved by the European Parliament in January 2014, and by the EU Council in February 2014.

Walker Morris has written extensively and provided training on the draft Directives as they passed through the EU legislative process. You can find all our previous briefings by searching under Business Insights on the Walker Morris website. Look out for further updates and training sessions in due course once the Cabinet Office starts to draft the necessary Regulations. Bespoke training session can be provided upon request.
