Walker Morris LLP will be attending and exhibiting at the 2013 NASBM national conference at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 21 – 22 November 2013.  Members of our specialist Education Group will be at the event and will be happy to talk to you whether about general issues in the sector, specific problems at your school or your plans for the future.  We are looking forward to catching up with our existing clients and contacts and meeting new ones, so please come and visit us at Stand 60.

Walker Morris LLP is uniquely placed to help you meet the demands of your role as a school business manager – you need to operate as a business, ensure you comply with the regulatory requirements while achieving the best deals you can for your school.  The schools sector is continuing to morph in line with Government plans and we are seeing a steady rise in the number of schools converting to academy status and in particular converting under MAT structures.  There is also an increase in the number of alternative schools structures, with free schools being high on the political agenda.  Independence from the LEA can bring new freedoms and new pressures and we are providing advice to various schools and academies (beyond conversion or establishment) around governance, procurement, contracting and employment/HR issues.  Walker Morris LLP also advises schools on building/construction matters, has a strong background in schools capital projects and is appointed by four schools in the North West batch to advise on them in respect of the Priority School Building Programme.

The event attracts on average over 200 business manager attendees and 70 exhibitors on an annual basis.  The event always covers thought provoking issues that are right at the heart of managing a school; often leading to challenging questions, debate and inspiring action.  This year promises to be no exception.

To support the event, we have produced a number of articles on current legal and topical issues which are available below.  We produce a regular Education Update – you can sign up for this by clicking here.  You may also like to sign up for Reach, our free knowledge management intranet, if so please click here.
