Consultation on safety protocol for sweeteners

Food_Manufacture_Sponsors_2020_Business Leaders_781x285Sweeteners are food additives and as such are regulated substances which are subject to safety evaluation by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). All food additives must be included in the ingredient lists on food product labels which must clearly identify both the function of the food additive (i.e. sweetener) and the specific substance by referring to the appropriate E number or its name (i.e. E954 or saccharin).

EFSA has launched an open consultation on a draft scientific protocol for assessing consumer exposure to sweeteners. The consultation closes on 22 November 2019.
