Public Sector Gender Pay Gap reporting from April 2018

Whilst this consultation came as no surprise (the plans were originally announced in October 2015) the timescale following the consultation is, nevertheless, tight. Along with affected private sector employers, public sector organisations in England employing 250 or more staff will have to take a ‘snapshot’ of their gender pay data by April 2017 and publish their report no later than April 2018. The requirements will be very similar to those already set out for the private sector. Many public sector organisations will already publish diversity information in order to demonstrate compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty although this existing duty does not require gender pay gap data so the new requirement will involve an extra layer of data recording and reporting.
