Immigration Skills Charge payable from 6 April 2017

Print publication

The Immigration Skills Charge is payable from 6 April 2017 by sponsors in respect of each skilled migrant sponsored under Tier 2 (General) and Tier 2 (Intra Company Transfer) categories.

There are a few exceptions in place. The charge is payable by the sponsor (not the worker) and varies between £364 and £5,000 depending on the duration of the prospective employment in the UK and the nature of the sponsor. Companies subject to the small companies’ regime under s381 Companies Act 2006, those employing no more than 50 employees and charities will pay lower amounts than larger companies.

Walker Morris has a specialist business immigration team able to advise on this and any other immigration related queries.
