Rachel Elgar

  • Senior Associate
  • Banking Litigation

Rachel qualified into the Retail Banking Litigation team in September 2017.

Rachel specialises in banking litigation and fraud, advising a broad range of high street banks and other lenders. She regularly advises clients on a wide range of disputes, including complex and sensitive mortgage repossession claims, rectification of defects in title, and defending mis-selling and other claims brought against financial institutions.

Rachel has extensive experience of professional negligence claims involving solicitors and other professionals, in particular relating to shared ownership properties. She works alongside Sandip Singh on complex and high value frauds.

Rachel has recently undertaken a full time secondment for a major high street lender, giving her an excellent insight into a lender’s perspective and has ensured that her litigation and regulatory advice drives forward her client’s commercial business.

Due to her specialisms in shared ownership and mis-selling cases as well as her secondment, Rachel is regularly instructed to advise lenders regarding new product launches and the acquisition of large mortgage books. Her litigation background means that she is able to provide lenders with pre-litigation and risk advice at this early stage to ensure that future litigation can be minimised and risk properly managed.
