James Taylor

James has many years’ experience of acting for lenders in a wide range of banking litigation matters, including six years working as the in-house litigator for a high street lender which gave him a very broad range of experience. His particular specialism is professional negligence and he has conducted a large number of successful claims for lenders against negligent, and occasionally fraudulent, valuers and solicitors. He also deals regularly with non-standard possession cases, title rectification matters, mortgage fraud claims and defending all manner of consumer claims.

His previous experience as a commercial and residential conveyancer provides James with valuable insight into many of the mortgage and title related issues on which he advises. During his time in-house, he was regularly involved with regulatory enforcement and large scale customer remediation projects and he worked closely with the financial crime, mortgage recoveries and customer relations teams, advising all levels of the business from collections case handlers to the CEO of the business. He has been both an advocate and a witness in court in a variety of cases, including small claims matters, defended possession cases and criminal trials, and has been involved with a number of successful mediations and resolving an assortment commercial disputes too.

James provides practical, pragmatic and commercial advice and has a down to earth, approachable style with the focus very much on the client. He has given training to lenders previously and also to witnesses who are about to give evidence in court.
