Walker Morris presents prizes for its 19th Children’s Charity Calendar Competition.
Law firm Walker Morris presented 50 children with prizes at a special presentation ceremony, at its offices on Saturday 9th November, for its 19th annual Children’s Charity Calendar Painting Competition.
The 13 winners, one for each month of the year, plus the front page, were all presented with a hamper full of artists’ materials worth £50, plus a cheque for their school for £250. The 37 runners-up, the highest number of runners-up in the history of the calendar, also received a prize each.
The three judges comprising: internationally renowned Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson, Walker Morris partner David Smedley and Dean Poole from West Yorkshire Printing; had the tough job of choosing the winning paintings from over 1700 entries across 100 schools in the Yorkshire, Humber and North East Lincolnshire regions.
All the proceeds from the sales of the Calendar go to Martin House Children’s Hospice. Since the Competition started, Walker Morris has raised over £60,000 for the hospice, which cares for Children and Young People with progressive life limiting illnesses, and provides support to their families.
Walker Morris partner David Smedley said:
“We were astounded, as we are every year, by the level of talent in the region. Judging was extremely difficult and this is why we had a record number of runners-up. It is a credit to the talent and support of the pupils, teachers and parents without whom the Calendar would not exist.”
Ashley Jackson commented:
It is always a great pleasure and honour to not only judge the Walker Morris Calendar but to present the children with their prize because I wish to thank them personally for taking part. Their creativity year on year is phenomenal I continually look forward to the next year to see the regions artistic talents.
Alyson Wort, Head of Fundraising at Martin House, says:
“We are delighted that Walker Morris has chosen to support Martin House again this year. The money raised from the sale of the calendars will go a long way to helping us to achieve our fundraising goals and enable us to continue our support to more than 450 families across our region. Thank you so much to everyone involved and well done to all of the winners and runners-up!”
