Construction & Engineering Team scoop three nominations in recognition of success in major litigation case.
The Walker Morris Dispute Resolution Team has been shortlisted for two awards at the British Legal Awards 2015. The announcement follows the Team’s success at the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards where they were also shortlisted for an award.
The awards celebrate the best in breed of the legal industry and are one of the leading awards for the UK’s business law community.
The Walker Morris Construction & Engineering Team has been shortlisted for the following awards:
- the ‘Dispute Resolution Team of the Year Award’
- Paul Hargreaves, Associate in the Construction & Engineering Team for the ‘Associate of the Year Award’.
The Team was also shortlisted for ‘Dispute Resolution Team of the Year’ at the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards. The nominations follow the Team’s success in one of the biggest litigation cases heard in the TCC last year. The case, (Rendlesham Estates Plc and others v Barr Limited EWHC 3968 (TCC)), involved advising 96 clients who were owners of apartments in a development in Leeds. The apartments and common parts suffered major defects from the outset, which left the apartments unfit for habitation. Claims were brought against the main contractor, under the Defective Premises Act 1972 and against solicitors for a failure to warn that no building guarantee existed for the common parts.
Martin Scott, Head of the Walker Morris Construction & Engineering Team commented:
“Being shortlisted for these awards is a great testament to the years of client focus and dedication demonstrated by the Team in relation to the case. In particular, I would like to congratulate Paul Hargreaves for being shortlisted as ‘Associate of the Year’. He worked incredibly hard on this case and deserves this recognition.”
The winners of the British Legal Awards will be announced on 25 November, at an awards ceremony hosted by Legal Week and the City of London Law Society and attended by over 1,000 guests.
The winners of the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards will be announced on 22 October at an awards ceremony in New Dock Hall, Leeds.
