Over 35 senior leaders from the food and drink industry shared valuable insights and opportunities at the 4th Walker Morris Food and Drink Leadership Dinner.

Jim McCarthy (Chief Executive) and Richard Lancaster (Trading Director) of Poundland Group plc led a discussion over dinner on the opportunities that single price retailers bring for food and drink manufacturers.  The discussion centred on the history of Poundland, its key drivers of success and what Poundland looks for from its supplier base

Since it was established in 1990, Poundland has become the largest single price value retailer in the UK.  The Company has enjoyed significant growth and has over 500 stores, stocking approximately 3,000 products ranging from home ware, gifts, food and healthcare.  In 2013 Poundland was awarded Discounter of the Year at The Grocer Awards and in 2014 it listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Commenting on the dinner Jim McCarthy said:

“I was delighted to attend the Walker Morris dinner and present the Poundland story to an audience of senior executives from the food and drink industry. It gave me the opportunity to meet a number of influential individuals in a cordial setting with Chatham house rules and, as a result, have developed a number of business opportunities for both Poundland and attendees of the event. The organisation by Walker Morris took all the pressure out of the equation and certainly helped create an enjoyable and profitable evening.”

Richard Naish, Head of the Food and Drink Group at Walker Morris, said:

We were delighted to be able to welcome more great speakers to our 4th Food and Drink Leadership Dinner, an event which has become a fixture in many of our clients’ calendars and which provides a fantastic networking opportunity.  I’d like to thank Jim and Richard for their fascinating and thought provoking insights.  We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from the attendees and would like to thank everyone who attended for their contribution to the evening’s discussion.”

Walker Morris’ previous Food and Drink Leadership Dinners have featured Tim Smith, Tesco Group Technical Director, Mike Coupe (now Chief Executive of Sainsbury) and David Salkeld (Chief Executive of Symington’s).
