Great, because we’re looking for a M&BD Director who’ll lead and execute the M&BD strategy to drive the firm’s Ambition 27 growth targets over the next three years, ensuring a unified, client-focused approach across all marketing and business development efforts.
As M&BD Director, you’ll sit at the heart of our firm’s leadership on the Senior Operations Team, working closely with the Managing Partner and sector heads to bring ambitious business plans to life. This is more than just a leadership role – it’s an opportunity to redefine growth, champion innovation and drive strategic impact across the firm.
What you’ll do:
- Align M&BD activities with the firm’s business goals, focusing on growth and client satisfaction.
- Lead business development and pipeline management strategies to secure work from existing clients, prospects, and long-term targets.
- Drive collaboration across legal departments for cross-selling and referral opportunities.
- Build the firm’s brand and develop impactful marketing campaigns, prioritising sectors and projects to ensure maximum ROI.
- Own the M&BD budget and be responsible for optimising team structure and resource allocation to achieve strategic goals.
- Promote a high-performance, client-focused and collaborative culture within the M&BD team.
- Mentor and develop the M&BD team with clear objectives and careers development plans.
- Implement data-backed decision-making and process improvements through accurate reporting and CRM insights.
What we’re looking for:
- CIM qualified or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
- A post -graduate marketing qualification is preferred but not essential.
Skills and experience:
- Experience working in a B2B environment, ideally within a professional services/partnership structure.
- ‘Director’ or ‘CMO’ level is preferred; however, we will consider those who are looking to step up from a ‘Head of’ level role.
- Leadership and development experience of both the marketing and BD components of a high-performing M&BD function and strategy (including budgetary responsibility) is preferred. However, we will consider applications from those who have led either the marketing or BD components.
- Ability to work with and influence senior stakeholders within the business, acting as a strategic M&BD adviser to the firm.
- Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, fostering open and transparent communication channels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail to deliver impactive, persuasive and meaningful outputs.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in high-stake situations, such as crisis management and strategic planning, inspiring trust and confidence among colleagues and clients.
- Commercially minded approach to work and ability to think strategically to execute firmwide, M&BD and client objectives.
- Delivers effective coaching and mentoring to junior members of the team, defining clear objectives and identifying training opportunities.
- Ability to devise and deliver interesting and persuasive presentations to large groups.
- Experience of creating and managing a high performing and cohesive team.
We offer hybrid working at Walker Morris, allowing you to split your time between home and the office. The successful candidate will live within commuting distance to the office to enable successful leadership of the M&BD team and build trusted relationship with the Partners and members for the Senior Operations Team.
