Head of Marketing

We are currently looking to recruit a Head of Marketing to join our Marketing department working both remotely and at our head office in Leeds.

The role:

This isn’t a new role, but it’s new role-esque. You’ll be joining immediately after the launch of our new brand. That might sound like you’re joining the end of a party – but this is where you can really make a difference. We’re aspiring to a new brand archetype, with new values and behaviours. These are based on our existing culture, but show ambition to progress who we are. You’ll be responsible for creating and delivering a range of campaigns and marketing activity that will deliver that change, both inside and outside the firm.

You’ll continue to grow interest in and enthusiasm for marketing across the firm, pushing our lawyers further than they thought they might go (even if we roll back on occasion!). You’ll be a marketing professional – creative, but rooted in research and data. And you’ll be able to be confident about that knowledge and expertise, working with a senior leadership team responsive to new ideas.

You’ll deliver through others, developing and inspiring a marketing team of five, and working closely with the BD & CRM team to ensure your hard-won leads are followed up.

Key responsibilities:

  • Owning our new brand and embedding awareness of who Walker Morris is both inside and outside of the firm. This will include:
o Working with the M&BD Director to translate our new values and behaviours into the client and employer experience
o Working with HR to improve staff engagement through internal comms
o Delivering creative ways of increasing awareness of Walker Morris outside the firm
o Challenging everyone – yourself, your team, lawyers – to always think about how what they’re doing will embed the brand
o Being unrelenting on using the right visuals and tone of voice
  • Creating and delivering thought leadership campaigns and marketing plans that will position Walker Morris as experts in our chosen markets, from initial research, objective and strategy setting, implementation and evaluation of success.
  • Managing, with the support of your team, day to day marketing activity, particularly using data and knowledge of the market to continuously improve and modernise how we use our main channels.
  • Working closely with the BD & CRM Manager to constantly improve processes for managing lists and other data, and how to move prospects through the pipeline.
  • Managing a team of five, developing them as specialists, encouraging them to be bold, and inspiring them to achieve great things.
  • Ensuring we maximise relationships with creative and media agencies.
  • Carrying out any other reasonable tasks as required by the firm.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of leading marketing in a professional services or B2B environment
  • Experience of working with all elements of the marketing mix
  • The ability to recommend the best channel – or mix of channels – needed to deliver a specific result, and the skills to maximise each
  • The ability to combine commercial understanding with creativity, to deliver truly distinctive ideas and campaigns that deliver results
  • Ability to develop the skills and motivate team members to push themselves
  • Excellent influencing skills, to persuade senior stakeholders of the merits of the suggested approach
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign would be an advantage
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

Walker Morris pride ourselves on being an equal opportunities employer, committed to being as diverse as possible within our employee network. We do not discriminate on the basis of a person’s ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic and therefore encourage applications made by anyone who comes from diverse backgrounds, communities and underrepresented demographics. We work hard to ensure that our recruitment practices are as inclusive as possible and we are happy to make any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process in order to assist you in performing your best.
