Gain the best experience

Walker Morris is a Top 100 and Chambers/Legal 500 rated firm delivering excellence from a single site location in Leeds. The Walker Morris culture is different. Our Banking team are business advisers, not just banking lawyers. Our clients operate in a competitive commercial environment and look to us to give them a commercial advantage.

With a client list including 11 major national and international banks and financial institutions, our Finance Group advises lenders, borrowers, sponsors and other stakeholders in relation to banking, restructuring, corporate recovery and insolvency issues.

The Group comprises 5 Partners and 10 Solicitors offering a variety and depth of experience unsurpassed in the region. They are supported by paralegals, trainee solicitors and secretaries.

The Roles

The group seeks an additional banking lawyer to work on matters to rival many in the City. Department expertise includes acquisition and structured finance, leveraged transactions, projects, property finance, syndications, development finance, asset based finance and restructuring work covering the full range of corporate funding requirements and regularly involving innovative and complex structures.

We are looking to develop individuals with business acumen as well as technical knowledge – people who understand the effect of the advice they are giving and can place it in context. To achieve this, we give our lawyers broad and varied experience and training. The thing which really makes us different, however, is how much involvement you will have and what you will experience on transactions. You will not just work on a small portion of a large transaction, you will get to work on, see and deal with clients from start to finish of what are often complex and interesting banking deals, all of which is fantastic experience for developing your technical and client skills. All of the partners in the team are recognised as leaders in their own fields and you will be learning directly from them through involvement and responsibility.

We have given details of some of our work and clients below. It demonstrates that you will have quality clients and jobs to match many in the City. But you will not have any billable hours targets, obscure hierarchy or aggravating bureaucracy.

This is a refreshing opportunity for genuine career progression and a chance to be seen and rewarded for what you can do. So, if you’ve got a business brain, as well as a legal one, we want to hear from you.

Example Deals

£60,000,000 funding of Strata Homes in connection with its ongoing funding requirements. An understanding of a house builder’s business is crucial in managing transactions of this nature.  Whilst house builders deal in the development of real estate, traditional committed real estate finance structures do not bring sufficient flexibility to the client’s cashflow requirements.  An ability to communicate this to the lender’s professional team and ensure that appropriate mechanisms were in place to ensure that new sites could be developed and plots sold with the minimum of fuss for the client and its house-buyer clients was key to the successful closing of this transaction.

£55,000,000 fundraising of Neovia Logistics by way of the issue of guaranteed senior secured floating rate notes secured on property in Leicestershire owned by a Delaware company for the purposes of funding the logistics business of the Group. The Notes were listed on the Jersey Stock Exchange and the transaction involved several international entities from the US and Hong Kong.

£50,000,000 trade finance facilities to British Steel to provide working capital to British Steel following its acquisition by Greybull Capital from the Tata Steel empire, including complex intercreditor arrangements with other ABL financiers to the business.
