Craig Looker, Senior Associate, Pensions
After training at the Leeds office of an international law firm and then working with three colleagues to set up a pensions law team at a smaller Leeds firm, I was delighted to join the Walker Morris Pensions Team in September 2015. It is a cliché, but this really is a firm which punches above its weight, with a remarkably high quality of clients and work across all departments.
The Walker Morris Pensions Team acts for Capita plc, a FTSE 100 company, and a number of other high profile clients, all of whom benefit from our position as a full service, single site firm which is focused on getting the best possible outcome for our clients. The commercial and can-do approach of the Team and the firm fits perfectly with my own approach to advising clients, and I would be happy to refer clients to any other team in Walker Morris, which is not always the case elsewhere.
At the same time, this is a firm which has retained a welcoming and approachable feel to it, a small firm feel coupled with a major law firm approach. Clients can see this from Reception and other Support Services all the way through to the Partners, which makes a real difference to client service.
At the same time, we are not standing still, and as solicitors we are encouraged and “set free” to develop our own relationships with existing clients but also to win new work and new clients. I have enjoyed visiting and building a relationship with clients from London to Slough to South Kirby. The firm as a whole gives solicitors a freedom and encouragement to develop the business which makes us feel valued and will bring great benefits to the firm in the future.
Above all, I love the people, the work and the clients here, and that is why my 18 months at Walker Morris have been some of the best of my career so far.
