Walker Morris was definitely the right choice for me. I am currently working as a Paralegal and will commence my Training Contract in September 2021. I have benefited from excellent professional support so far and am very excited to start training.
Working in our Retail Banking Litigation team, I have been pleasantly surprised by the level of responsibility I have been given. It is more than I know Paralegals often get at other firms, which can be daunting, but there is always the reassurance that excellent support is available whenever you need it. This has helped me to develop, gain new skills and ultimately reach my goal of getting a Training Contract at the firm.
My colleagues and other staff at Walker Morris make it a great place to work. Professionally, senior people are prepared to give you their time and they are very approachable and personally, I’ve made some very good friends.
Prospective trainees are invited to social events before they start, which is a good way to meet people at the firm in advance. This also includes playing in some of the sports teams. There are a number of departmental and firm wide events throughout the year. For me this has been a great opportunity to get to know the other trainees on my intake before we start and it is also a great way to socialise with people in other departments.
Everyone I have worked with at the firm is very approachable, regardless of their position. I have learnt a lot from working closely with Partners and other senior members of staff.
Decide on type of firm
I would advise graduates to think about what areas of law interest them and what they would likely to gain and achieve from a career in law. Then identify the firms that will help them to achieve this and focus their energy on those firms, rather than firing out generic applications to firms across the country.
