Calendar Competition 2020
Winners of the 2020 Walker Morris Children’s Charity Calendar with judges: Ashley Jackson, Dean Poole and David Smedley
It is with great sadness that we have reluctantly had to cancel the Walker Morris Children’s Charity Calendar Competition for the 2021 calendar. Given the current situation and Government response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, we felt we are unable to run the competition this year.
Last year’s competition (for the 2020 calendar) was our 25th year and we’ve had an amazing journey in that time. Over the years, the winning children’s paintings have been exhibited at The Tetley, the National Media Museum, Leeds Art Gallery, Harewood House and even on the Saatchi Gallery website. Winning schools have also benefited from masterclasses and mentoring with Ashley Jackson, who has supported the Calendar from its launch and to whom we are very grateful.
We started the Calendar Competition with the clear objective of raising the awareness of the importance of art and creativity in schools, particularly at the crucial age of 7-11, where the timetable for art is increasingly shrinking. A goal which is as important now more than ever.
During that time we have presented over 1000 prizes to winners and runners-up and awarded £81,250 in prize money directly to winning primary schools, allowing the schools, particularly those under financial pressure, to provide additional art resource, teaching and art clubs for its pupils. We were even reunited with a former winner from our 2009 Calendar, Tamzin Jebson in a different art competition which you can read about here.
We’d like to thank Ashley Jackson for his unwavering support throughout the Competition and to Dean Poole from Reflex Label Plus, whom, alongside Walker Morris Chairman David Smedley, had the difficult task of judging the competition. We’d also like to thank the schools, teachers and parents. Their support over the years has been fantastic and critical to the success of the Competition. Finally, thanks to all the children who took the time to enter. Your imagination and innovation never failed to astound us. Keep on drawing and never lose that creativity.
Hope to see you next year!
